• ArmA II is LIVE, Hablos Q&A

Today, we welcome Hablos into his new position as head admin for ArmA, Congratulations, Hablos!

As you may have heard, or read about on the forums / front page, SectionSeven has a full working-order ArmA II server available to play on now. To kick off the fun, I caught up with the man himself and asked him a few questions about what we might experience with this title.

    ------------
    Q. What kind of ArmA 2 events do you think we can expect?

    A. “They will be set in the ArmA 2 vanilla world to accommodate the ArmA 2 free players. Mostly small co-op as the population is quite small. Might see larger missions and TvT if the population rises. Once or twice a month might be good start.”

    Q. For general server use, will there be a play-style focus to the mission rotation (as in coop, team vs team?) or will it be a mixture of different game types?

    A. “I'd say the focus will be on Co-op. This is again because of the population. TvT requires much larger player base than co-op to be interesting. Uploading a few TvT scenarios isn't out of the question if the community want's to try them out.”

    Q. I've seen in the forums that you and a few of the other players have tested the server with a small coop mission, how was that?

    A. “Yes, we did a small sabotage mission in Chernarus. Our goal was to destroy some US planes and neutralise a pilot. There was one AI pathfinding problem that caused us some grey hairs and we managed to get killed in the end, but in general - fun was had. I'm in the process of editing it as a video, which I'll post when done.”

    Q. Great, I'm sure a video would help to dispel some of the concerns aired by our players. Some of the guys are new to ArmA as a whole, and I recall them being slightly worried by the scale of the game and its controls, did they enjoy themselves? And how quickly did they pick up the controls?

    A. “I think they did, or rather I'm hopeful that they did . I don't think that anyone had too much trouble with the controls. Most of the controls aren't even needed really in multiplayer anyway, and after you tweak them to suit your own taste it isn't that much harder than in the BF-series for instance. Most of my keys are set in the keypad and mouse for example, while the ones I use less are more or less in their default places.

As a long time player of the Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault series, I am very much looking forward to playing this game with you all. See you on the battlefield, folks!
